KNOW THE TRUE NAME OF GOD

YOU would know for sure what is actually the real name of God? Many people sincere, Catholic or Protestant, do not really know the name of God which they serve.

These days talking to an evangelical known he asks: who is this of Yahweh? Explaining that Yahweh was the name of God to which he served, he asks again: How do I ever read the entire Bible and have never seen that name? And we should not surprise the fact that many people do not know the divine name, since most modern Bibles at hand does not show us God by his own name, but by his title of Lord.

IMPORTANCE OF A NAME

You might wonder what is the importance of knowing God's name. In this influence in your spiritual life. Do not just know him as Lord? Not enough to meet Jesus? Not enough to know that He exists? What would you change a name? First, the name is one of God's own invention. When He created the first human being, Adam, he gave himself the name Adam. When creating the animals, he gave man the task of naming them. And he himself has a name. A name that everyone would know. (Ez. 39: 7). By calling people to a ministry, God often changes its name, leaving him as his new task. As we have seen, our God is greatly under a name; how could I, we consider less? Therefore, it is very important to know yes, and disclose our God, the Lord has a name.

TITLES

God has one name, but many titles. The two most common titles that he has is just the title of God and Lord. Yes, God is not a name, it is a title that demonstrates the entire universe who He is, to know that He is God we know that He is being maximum in the universe: maximum power, in authority, wisdom (... ) it is known that he should be the one to be worshiped, after all he alone is God and Creator of life. The title is intended to show, in one or a few words, who is the being who uses it and what it does. Another easy way of finding is the title of Lord. It is so called by Him to be the Lord of our lives. Here's something interesting: we usually worship Him as God is, and lip service, honor Him with our lips calling Him Lord. Usually we say: "Peace in the Lord!" Or "the Lord bless you!" Or "praise the Lord". But our heart is far from the LORD. The Lord just as we want on the lips, but not as the Lord of our lives. What does that mean? The means that we as God as Lord, just lip service. But we do not want Him as the Lord to guide our steps and our living. God has other titles too, not we will take us here. Only we will quote. Others God's titles are: ETERNAL, CREATOR, FATHER, FATHER OF LIGHTS, DAD, MOST HIGH, ALPHA AND OMEGA, JIREH (ISP), NISSI (our flag), Rapha (our healing) SHALOM (our peace), TSIDKENU ( our righteousness), MACCADESHKEM (sanctifies) SABAOTH (of esxércitos), Shammah (is present), ELYON (very high) ROHY (my pastor), HOSEENU (our creator), ELOENÚ (our God), Elohe (your God) , ELOAY (my God) as well as those already seen Lord ( 'ADHONAY) and God (EL) among others. JIREH of here, all titles comes with his name. Ex .: YAHWEH SHALOM, which means Yahweh is our peace. If you know more some other title and would like to quote it here, is the will. Usually confuses name and titles. We have a name. Some people even more than one, as my wife. But we have many titles. Example: Someone can call Gustav. But having the titles of PhD, Master and Teacher (...) Many are his titles, but He gives us only one name.

PRONUNCIATION POPULAR, BUT NOT THE MOST FAITHFUL

Who ever heard of Jehovah? The most popular pronunciation of the name of our God, is sung in many songs, and is part of the Bibles 'Good News Translation' SBB as well as the English 'King James', among others. Be in the English-speaking, Portuguese or any other, with minor variations as a "H", for example, Jehovah is the best known name of our God. Although the most popular pronunciation, is far from being the most faithful to the original Hebrew. In fact, the name Jehovah was created kinda unintentionally. Hebrews Massoretes (. X century approximately) invented to introduce the vowels of 'ADHONAY (LORD in Hebrew - or my Lord) in consonants YHWH. The original goal of the Masoretes to add the vowels of 'Adhonay the tetragrammaton was that readers when faced with YHWH, should pronounce' Adhonai, as had already been pronounced by the Jews even before Christ. They never at any time had they intend to invent a new name for God, mistakenly calling him Jehovah.

"Every time the Masoretes thought something must be read differently than what was written in the text, put their change in the margin suggestions, did not change the text itself. An example is the reading of God's name, which consists of four Hebrew consonants YHWH (tetragrammaton calls), it was probably pronounced Yahweh in ancient times. But for centuries devout Jews, fearing desecrate the holy name, had the not pronounced. instead, when they came to the name YHWH, said Adhonai " Lord. "the Masoretes, loyal to its principle not to change the Scriptures, let the four Hebrew consonants YHWH wherever met, but they added to them the vowels of the word 'Adhonai. Every Jew reader started to come to that word would read, therefore 'Adhonai, but only found the vowels of the word' Adhonai added to the consonants YHWH. since this principle was not known by Christians when they began to use the Hebrew Bible in the early days of the Reformation, God's name was transliterated as Jehovah and pronounced the same way. Jehovah is therefore a hybrid name that does not remember anything the consonants of the Hebrew Tetragrammaton.

See the Tetragrammaton (יהוה) transliterated into Portuguese, is YHWH. Now let us compare this tetragrammaton (YHWH) step by step, from the inserts of vowels by the Masoretes to reach the Jehovah name, name this widespread in the Christian community for the first time by the Catholic and confessor of Pope Leo X, Petrus Galantinus (1518) (THOMPSON, 1992) - and defended today ardently, you see, by Jehovah's Witnesses.

יהוה - four Hebrew letters. Written from right to left, were these letters that the Hebrew prophets wrote in his autograph (written) documents. There are about 6,828 citations this tetragramma throughout the Tanach, the Jewish holy book that corresponds to our Old Testament. From right to left are: ([י] Yud - [ה] Hey - [ו] Waw - [ה] Hey). More or less as in Portuguese, where we have for example, a letter in this format "L" and pronounced "He" to the letter that has this otherwise "B" have a pronounced "Bê" and the letter " J "have a pronounced" Jota ".

YHWH - the original letters of the Hebrew Tetragrammaton above views, transliterated - transliterate is transcribing writing an alphabet in another - in our alphabet;

Yahowah - the three letters in lowercase, are vowels of the Hebrew word "Adhonay" included among the consonants by Masoretes;

Jehovah - the first vowel "a" is replaced by the vowel "e".

jeHoWaH - was transferred into the "Y" to "J" to adapt to the Latin alphabet. This form was immortalized in English through the Authorized King James Version;

Jehovah - so how was the divine name seen up after insertion of vowels; withdrawal of the two "Agas" and changing the "Y" to "J".

Note that this form of name in Portuguese, not left at least one original letter of the tetragrammaton to tell the story. So Jehovah, is nothing more than a lack of knowledge of post Massoretes Christians understand why they have inserted these vowels between the consonants; and transliterating YHWH with the vowels of 'Adhonay to our alphabet, we read then Jehovah. The members, however, were not there to move the divine name, but only for any player that were to have any the tetragrammaton, remember to read 'ADHONAY, or Lord. Jehovah therefore can even be a respectful way to call God, but never intended to be his real name.

A true Christian, a true servant of the Most High God, will chamaLo by his real name, leaving the Catholic way and Yahwist aside.

Let's see what Dr. David H. Stern says (PhD in economics from Princeton University; Professor of the University of California, Master in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary working at the University of Judaism and author of the Jewish Bible, the Tanakh and B'rit Hadashah) on the name Jehovah:

"The name 'Jehovah' is modern invention, a hybrid based on the four Hebrew letters in transliteration in German J.H.V.H with the members individually."

"The earliest example that is known of Jehovah use of the word is from the year 1518 A.D. It originated from a misunderstanding of a Hebrew word whose whichever is YHWH."

See what interesting thing: Even Jehovah's Witnesses - at least the most enlightened - understand and agree that Yahweh is the most faithfully the tetragrammaton YHWH. However, for their own reasons they chose the hybrid form Jehovah. And today, for obvious reasons, can not - and do not want - go to call God by His name, Yahweh. Prefer to call and release a name that is grammatically impossible, saying only that no matter how the call, since we understand it is a name for Him.

Imagine me, Alexander arrive in another country for example, and there call me "Alecsandro". I would say: - "No, my name is Alexander." But people would say to me: - "Ah ... we thought it was Alecsandro but now leaves anyway Everyone knows by Alecsandro What matters is that we created a new name for you, and call it by that name...." I ask you: They would be calling me the correct name? Of course not. And the worst is that they would still be teaching his fellow wrong my name, even though the correct way of it. Forgive me if I'm being exhaustive, but there is the need to make clear. The more you proclaim that God's name is Jehovah, as one day I also came to believe, over there to have to clarify the correct spelling: יהוה YHWH in Hebrew and in Latin alphabet. As for pronunciation, there is still much debate as - יהוה - transliterated as YHWH - seems to be unpronounceable. But Massoretes Jews tended to create vowel for our best pronunciation. Before the vowels are added to the consonantal text in the seventh century our era, the vocalization was inconsistent, ranging through the centuries and in different countries. In a number of cases, for example the LXX and other ancient versions read the text of the consonants but vocalized them differently.

The Masoretes invented a system of ten signs with variation for the vowels, a, e, i, o, u. The purpose of these signs was to preserve the best pronunciation of the Hebrew text.

NAME MORE APPROPRIATE

If Jehovah, as we have seen, is not really the pronunciation that best represents the divine name in Portuguese, although by far is the best known and popular, as it would then this name? There in the Bible some clue? Something that waves in the memory?

There are in our Bibles a word that often goes on unnoticed, but that is of great value, "Hallelujah!" This word was removed from the Hebrew alphabet and transliterated into our alphabet, Latin, then being as follows: "hallelu YAH". What is this word that interesting?

When YHWH inspired the prophets, they wrote in their alphabet, the Hebrew (עברית) - with few parts in Aramaic. In the alphabet of them, of Semitic origin, "Hallelujah" then originally was spelled by the prophets as follows: "הללויה"

(הללויה - in Hebrew);

(Hallelu YAH - Hebrew word transliterated into Latin alphabet);

(HALLELUJAH - in Portuguese).

But after all, which means Hallelujah? Well, the first part of the word, Hallelu (הלל) means "praise"; the second part of the word is Yah (יה) a shortened form of the name of God, the tetragrammaton YHWH - יהוה). Yah is written with the letters yod (י) and he (ה). So hallelujah means "Praise Yah" or "Adore YAH". Who's this YAH? YAH is the short form of Yahweh - a kind of nickname, as we have Alex, short for Alexander. There in the Bible about 25 times this Tetragrammaton in its diminuitiva way (Yah) as a sort of nickname. Just as we have the diminutive of other names: Alexander (Alex) Fabiane (Fabi) Eduardo (Edu) Francine (Fran) and so on. Note that all nicknames have the initial phoneme name. Similarly we have 25 times GOD being called YAH. And not JEOH or YEOH ... This abbreviated form of the Divine name, gives us an idea of ​​what the right sound for the first syllable of God's name. No and Jeo but, YAH.

Look in your Bible the first passage is "hallelujah":

"Earth Disappear sinners, and no longer remain the wicked. Bless, O my soul, the Lord! Hallelujah!" [Ps. 104: 35] - ARA.

The Portuguese version of "King James Version" - ARA does not bring the name Yahweh where the original Hebrew is [יהוה], ie YHWH. Back LORD. No back or at least the wrong way Jehovah. Versions of modern Bibles, bring, Lord ETERNAL or something similar. We have just seen the Almeida updated above. See now the Bible version of Jerusalem:

Note that the last syllable of hallelu - YAH is the initial YAH - the name Yahweh. So we can see that the first letters of the divine name, is not Jeo, but Yah; short form of the Divine name.

So we have to YHWH, the following:

YHWH - the original letters of the Hebrew tetragrammaton seen above, transliterated in our alphabet;

YAH- the first syllable of the divine name supported by the last of the word 'hallelujah', ie 'praise YAH';

YAH - WEH - the most correct pronunciation of the Divine name, being recognized by Catholics (Jerusalem Bible) Jehovah's Witnesses, and the vast majority of Hebrew scholars scholars.

In Exodus 3:13, Moses asks God what His name. In the following verse (14) God responds to Moses, "Asher Ehyeh Ehyeh", which according to Dr. David Stern, means "I AM THAT I AM / I WILL BE WHAT I AM / I WILL BE," and added, "Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: "Ehyeh" (I AM or I WILL BE) sent me to you. As seen, the vast majority of encyclopedias and Hebraists also own the Jehovah's Witnesses, and Jewish scholars agree that the divine name (YHWH) is more properly transcribed as Yahweh. In Portuguese, formerly wrote Yahweh, but according to the new orthographic agreement, the "Y" and "W" today are part of the Brazilian alphabet, and may be written Yahweh, Yahweh or Yahweh. See that were removed Y, H and W. letters that did not exist in Portuguese, with the exception of H and were replaced by letters of our alphabet that reproduce the same sound: Y by I, and W by V. Today , you can have if you want, write to the original letters transliterated.

CONCLUSION

We saw then that in the original Hebrew alphabet, the divine name is יהוה; (From right to left);

For the Latin alphabet if transliterates-YHWH;

In English, Portuguese and in most languages, the divine name is Yahweh;

Jehovah is the wrong way to read YHWH with the vowels of 'ADHONAY. Members included the Masoretes, and mistakenly inserted in the Christian by Pope Leo X confessor Petrus Galantinus (1518);

You and I today have a duty to make the name of our God known to the world. Of course, know the name of God, it is no guarantee to meet God. To know to God, we need daily communion with Him, of intimacy. Intimacy is not to call his father by name. I do not call my father Valdir. I do not say, "Valdir, you have not seen my coat?" I say: "Father ..."

Anyway, there is one God, and His name is Yahweh. This ONE GOD reveals Himself to us in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
